A Design Manifesto about Colourblind Accessibility

The Value Of Design, A Design Manifesto about Colourblind Accessibility

Rationale: This was a duo-tone brochure I designed for my Brand Experience Studio module. I based my design on the Colour Blind Accessibility Manifesto by Federico Monaco. I feel that design plays a great part in increasing accessibility for the disadvantaged which is why I chose this topic.

As the target audience was fellow designers, I wanted to find a realistic manifesto that I would be able to apply to my work. One of the requirements was to include an alternate purpose to the brochure, so I decided to add a Colourblind word search in hopes of raising awareness of the different types of colour blindness. Secondly, I also included
a QR code that links to a filter that simulates the vision of someone who is
colour-blind
.

Process:  Once I found the manifesto I wanted to design, I researched different ways to fold my brochure as I wanted it to be unique and memorable. I landed on this fold which is called the Roundabout fold as I liked that it gave people the freedom to read the brochure in any order they’d like.

I then created a physical mockup that I took pictures of to superimpose my designs on. Next, I began on my design where I combined my Photoshop and Illustrator skills. As the Photoshop skills we were taught in class were quite limited, I spent quite a bit of time searching for tutorials online which was extremely helpful. This project was a valuable experience for me as I was able to improve my Photoshop skills and learn how to create mockups which I can apply to my future works.
